Rogue Traders in your area

Kent Police have received information that rogue traders are operating in the area.

Rogue traders offer unnecessary or substandard work on homes and gardens, especially to vulnerable residents.  We advise residents to not engage, never pay cash upfront, and only use KCC Trading Standards Checked or recommended traders.

To report a rogue trader, call 101, 999 if a crime is in progress, or visit the Kent Police website to report fraud Home | Kent Police

Do not answer the door: to cold callers.

Do not agree to any work: or sign any contracts on the doorstep.

Say "no" politely and close the door .

Never pay cash upfront .

If you are concerned about their behaviour or feel threatened, call the police on 999.

How to find a reputable tradesperson

Get multiple quotes: Always get at least three written quotes from different tradespeople.

Use trusted sources: Check KCC Trading Standards Checked for vetted tradespeople, ask friends for recommendations, or use a trusted local business.

Check company details: Make sure you are dealing with a legitimate company by checking their details, such as through the Trading Standards Checked website or by looking them up on other consumer advice sites.

What to do if you are a victim or suspect a scam

Contact your bank immediately: if you have been a victim of a scam, particularly if you paid by card.

Report it to Action Fraud: online at www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.
